16:07: Shots on goal almost four minutes into the game were 4-2 for the Oilers.

15:11: Brandon Davidson scored his first career NHL goal on Edmonton's sixth shot of the night. Anton Lander spotted a pinching Davidson after pausing to wait for the blueliner to get into position. Andrew Miller got the other helper. | EDM 1, COL 0

Oilers continue on the attack, outshooting Colorado 11-3 as the period reaches the midway point. 6:42: Colorado pulled even with 6:42 to play in the opening frame. Alex Tanguay’s slap shot was kicked out by Richard Bachman but Ryan O’Reilly was right there to put home the rebound and make it 1-1. | EDM 1, COL 1

0.0: Shots in the first period ended up as 15-11 for the Oilers.


20:00: Second period is now underway.

17:30: Oilers have a sustained 90 seconds of pressure in the Avalanche zone with the line of Miller, Hall and Lander doing some impressive forechecking. Shots in the period opened 6-0 Edmonton.

14:39: Tyson Barrie gets around Oscar Klefbom at the Oilers blueline and skates in on Bachman. His blast from the right circle is denied by the Edmonton goaltender.

13:20: The first penalty of the game went to the Oilers. Rob Klinkhammer received two minutes for tripping, sending Colorado on the power play. 

6:50: After Edmonton had the first six shots of the second period, Colorado rattled off the next six. Total shot count, 21-17 for Edmonton 13 minutes into the frame.

6:12: Jarome Iginla had the puck in the slot, spun and fired but just narrowly missed the outside of the post.

4:32: Justin Schultz raced down the ice, lifted the stick of Nate Guenin then drove to the net before backhanding the puck past Varlamov to put the Oilers back in the lead. | EDM 2, COL 1

17:34: Oilers open the third with a quick start, much like the previous two stanzas. They have a pair of quality scoring chances.

9:59: A skirmish erupts after the play after Cody McLeod gets a little too close to Bachman after the Oilers goaltender makes a stop.

8:35: Shots are 31-26 Oilers.

8:13: A backhand by Teddy Purcell rattled off the inside of the post behind Varlamov and out in what was Edmonton's best scoring chance of the period.

3:35: Eberle set up Nugent-Hopkins at the top of the crease, but the Oilers center couldn't get a handle on the puck.

2:25: Colorado pulled Varlamov extremely early for a one-goal deficit. Avalanche empty net.

2:07: Oilers make it 3-1 with an empty netter. Nikitin rifled it the length of the ice and the puck skipped into the open cage. | EDM 3, COL 1
