Ference - J.Schultz

20:00: The puck has dropped and the 2013-14 season is now underway! Watch the pre-game intro video here:

17:39: Luke Gazdic makes an impact in his first shift. Will Acton wins the draw and slips the puck over to Gazdic, who skips it past Ondrej Pavelec and puts the Oilers on the board. | EDM 1, WPG 0
1st goal for Gazdic, perfectly enough assisted by Acton for his first helper! Both playing 1st game.
17:15: Jeff Petry takes a delay-of-game penalty and the Oilers are a man short for the first time this season.

16:35: While on the power play, Mark Scheifele rifles a shot top corner past Dubnyk to put the game back on even terms. | EDM 1, WPG 1

16:06: Boyd Gordon takes a penalty to put the Jets right back on the power play.

13:45: During the first intermission, the Oilers played a tribute to the return to Rexall Place of the Winnipeg Jets.

12:09: Shots on goal are 4-3 for Winnipeg early in the period.

6:01: Jesse Joensuu makes a no-look, between-the-legs pass right on the stick of Nail Yakupov. Yakupov's quick shot is turned away and smothered by Pavelec, however.

3:48: Bryan Little's shot from the right circle beats Dubnyk on the blocker side as Jets move in front. | WPG 2, EDM 1

2:09: Joensuu is upended in front of the Jets net. Dustin Byfuglien heads to the box and the Oilers go on their first man advantage.

1:52: Boyd Gordon is stationed in front of the net on the power play and redirects a Justin Schultz wrist shot from the point to get the Oilers back on even terms. | EDM 2, WPG 2

0:00: Shots on goal after 20 minutes are 15 to 7 for Edmonton.

20:00: Period two is now underway.

16:22: Ales Hemsky wires a shot from the left circle past Pavelec to put the Oilers back in the lead. | EDM 3, WPG 2

12:29: Paul Postma flips the puck over the glass from his own zone and receives a penalty for delay of game.

12:09: Jordan Eberle is stoned by Pavelec at the left side of the net on two attempts but Jesse Joensuu is right there on the doorstep to knock the second rebound in. | EDM 4, WPG 2

10:06: Ryan Smyth receives two minutes for holding. Shots are 23-14 Oilers as the game reaches the midway point.

6:36: Shortly after that penalty expires, the Oilers go right back to the box after Smid receives two minutes for boarding.

3:52: Michael Frolik spins and fires a shot past Dubnyk to draw the Jets back within a goal. | EDM 4, WPG 3

2:20: Gazdic drops the gloves with Winnipeg's Chris Thorburn. Gazdic lands a decisive victory after landing three solid blows on the Jets forward.

1:00: Perhaps coincidentally or perhaps not, fire alarms start going off at Rexall Place after the Gazdic bout.
Fire alarm is going off in Rexall. Chris Thorburn, who's just been beaten up, is probably asking if anyone else can hear that.
0:00: Shots on goal after 40 minutes are 24-22 for the Oilers.

20:00: The third period is now underway.

18:02: Dustin Byfuglien gets a delay of game penalty which puts the Oilers back on the power play.

15:13: After getting out of the box, Byfuglien mixes it up with Joensuu and both go to the box for roughing, setting up two minutes of four-on-four play.

9:49: It's announced that the Luke Gazdic goal has been changed to Mike Brown, though it will be reviewed more closely after the game.
Whoever changed the Gadzic goal to Mike Brown kicks puppies and hates Christmas (Um, no offence, Mike Brown)                                                                                @Sun_Tychkowski
8:54: Jacob Trouba tees up a shot from the right point that beats Dubnyk glove side. It's Trouba's first career NHL goal and pulls the Jets into a tie with the Oilers. | EDM 4, WPG 4

7:44: Mark Stuart takes a slashing penalty, giving the Oilers power play a chance to move the home side back in the lead.

5:44: The Oilers buzz around the Jets net but are unable to convert on the man advantage.

5:02: Michael Frolik pounced on a loose puck after the Jets had a flurry of activity in front of the Edmonton net. Frolik had a wide open cage and made no mistake, firing it in for the goal. | WPG 5, EDM 4

2:34: A too-many-men penalty from the Jets gives the Oilers a late power play opportunity to tie it.
