IN-GAME BLOG: Barons at Marlies Game 3

by Marc Ciampa / Edmonton Oilers

Welcome back to another edition of the Barons live in-game blog. For those unfamiliar with this new feature we've introduced for the third round of the Calder Cup Playoffs, we'll be updating the action from the game as it happens. We'll also be adding photos, videos from big plays and more throughout the game.

With today being Victoria Day, it's a matinee affair as Oklahoma City and Toronto get after it in Game 3. Not too much in the way of lineup changes on the OKC side. With Triston Grant suspended, Curtis Hamilton draws back into the lineup. Josh Green skated in the warm-up -- which means he's close -- but will not play tonight.

Line Combinations (and defence pairings) for the Barons:

Antti Tyrvainen - Mark Arcobello - Tyler Pitlick
Philippe Cornet - Anton Lander - Ryan Keller
Magnus Paajarvi - Chris VandeVelde - Teemu Hartikainen
Curtis Hamilton - Tanner House - Cameron Abney

Dylan Yeo - Alex Plante
Bryan Rodney - Taylor Chorney
Bryan Helmer - Dan Ringwald

Yann Danis

Puck drops to start the game.

17:41: A turnover in the neutral zone results in a two-on-one for the Barons' Paajarvi and Hartikainen. Teemu elects to shoot and is denied by Scrivens.

11:04: Barons hold an 8-1 edge in shots following consecutive two-on-one chances, both denied by Scrivens. Keller and Cornet were both stopped on their shot attempts.

10:55: Toronto gets the first power play of the game after Alex Plante gets an interference minor.

8:01: After Toronto only manages one shot on the previous power play, they get another chance with 8:01 to play in the opening period as Curtis Hamilton hammers Mike Zigomanis into the boards behind the play, getting two for boarding.

7:25: It only takes Toronto 36 seconds to capitalize. Philippe Dupuis takes a shot from the left circle that beats Danis along the ice. MARLIES 1, BARONS 0 |

6:51: Oklahoma City gets its first power play opportunity as Korbinian Holzer gets two for tripping.

2:43: Marlies' Jay Rosehill gets sent off, putting OKC on the PP for the second time on the afternoon.

0:00: Buzzer sounds and the first period is over. Shots on goal after one were 13 to 9 for OKC.

20:00: Second period is now underway as Barons hunt for the equalizer.

10:28: Zigomanis gets himself in a dangerous position as he tees up a blast from the right faceoff circle that is deflected into the crowd.

6:12: The first penalty of the period goes to Hartikainen, who "tripped" a Marlies skater off the draw following a neutral zone faceoff.

5:03: With 52 seconds left in the Hartikainen minor, Toronto strikes for their second goal of the game. Hamilton redirects a Gardiner point shot past Danis. MARLIES 2, BARONS 0

4:41: Barons get back on the power play following a Dupuis penalty.

2:50: There it is! Bryan Rodney flicks a wrist shot from the left faceoff dot that rises over the shoulder of Ben Scrivens but under the bar. Scrivens didn't see a thing thanks to a screen in front by Hartikainen. Ringwald and Paajarvi with the assists. MARLIES 2, BARONS 1

1:31: And just like that, 79 seconds later the game is tied. Dylan Yeo picks up the puck off the side boards after Hartikainen ricochets it from the other side of the ice. Yeo puts it on net and VandeVelde is right there to pick up the garbage. MARLIES 2, BARONS 2

42.3: With time winding down in the period, Toronto regains the lead. Matt Frattin wires the puck from the slot past Danis. MARLIES 3, BARONS 2

0:00: Buzzer sounds to end the second period. Shots on goal were 21 to 19 for OKC.

20:00: Third period is underway.

14:59: Rosehill takes a high sticking penalty to put Oklahoma City on their first power play of the third period.

14:12: Rodney spots Helmer at the far blueline with a beauty pass. Helmer breaks in alone and tees up a blast from the slot but Scrivens challenges and brings the puck in for a whistle.

11:41: Toronto's Colborne is hooked from behind by Yeo after breaking in behind the Barons defence. Yeo denies the scoring chance but gets two minutes in the box for his efforts.

8:04: Magnus Paajarvi blazes into the Marlies zone and fires a shot from the right faceoff circle past Scrivens to even it up. MARLIES 3, BARONS 3

Paajarvi and Hartikainen break in on a two-on-one. Paajarvi elects to shot from a similar spot to his goal five minutes earlier but Scrivens makes the stop.

2:02: Frattin wrists a shot from the high slot that whizzes past Danis blocker side to put Toronto back in the lead. MARLIES 4, BARONS 3

1:32: Barons have a great chance to get back on even terms after VandeVelde is hacked down by Mark Fraser. The power play plus pulled goaltender gives OKC a six-on-four advantage.

1:07: Jerry D'Amigo pots an empty netter to ice this one. MARLIES 5, BARONS 3
