Happy Holidays!

by Tom Gilbert / Edmonton Oilers
With only a few days to spare I'm happy to say that I just finished up my Christmas shopping. I bought a few things earlier this week but left most of the important stuff until today. My family is doing Secret Santa this year and I picked my grandma. I know I just ruined the secret, but I don't think she'll be checking my blog and I hope my family can keep the secret to themselves. I had a really hard time figuring out what to buy her but I think I got something she'll like. I hope so anyway.

I've got another little secret relating to the holidays, but I'm going to keep that one to myself. Don't worry though. I'll tell you in my next blog.

The Oilers Christmas party was really fun but I wish I would have stayed until Rock Band. I hear it was hilarious. Then yesterday we had a holiday skate with the players and staff and their families. It was great to see everyone and their kids. Santa was there for the kids and they had pizza and chicken fingers for them to snack on. The adults had a separate buffet of turkey, ham, potatoes, carrots, etc, but I'm not ashamed to admit I chose the kids buffet. Sometimes you just have to eat pizza and chicken fingers.

Other than that, I havent' been doing too much holiday-type stuff. We have Christmas lights up around our house but those have been up for two years. Ethan left them up and we haven't taken them down. They make great night-lights so I'm sure we'll leave them up for at least another year.

New Year's is just around the corner and I've been trying to think of a good resolution. Last year my resolution was to go to bed earlier but I gave that up after about a week. Maybe this year I'll resolve to do less shopping on the road. That will be a tough one to keep but I'll do my best.

Anyway, I'll wrap this up by giving two quick movie reviews. The Day The Earth Stood Still was okay. It's one of those movies you just have to see once. Seven Pounds with Will Smith was pretty slow (kind of like Pursuit of Happyness) but I liked it a lot. Hope that helps in your movie-watching decisions.

I want to end by saying thank you for all your support this season. We have the greatest fans in the world and I know I'm really lucky to be able to play here in Edmonton. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
