Wayne Gretzky is back in California where he once helped grow the game of hockey.
This time, he's there to promote the NHL All-Star Weekend as the NHL's Centennial ambassador.
The Great One offered guidance to Oilers captain Connor McDavid, who will skate in his first NHL All-Star Game.
"My advice to Connor is: listen, it's going to be hectic and it seems like it's going to be rushed but really, just take it all in," said Gretzky. "You learn as you get older and older that you slow down and really [must] take it all in and really come to enjoy everything that comes with the game, whether it's signing autographs, doing interviews [or] being with the other guys."
No. 99 emphasized enjoying it with family, too.
"Most importantly, spending time with your family," he said. "Sometimes we forget that as excited as we are as players, that the parents and family members are as excited as the players are."
While it may not be McDavid's last appearance, Gretzky wants the 20-year-old to have fun at his first.
"Just enjoy it, and I'm sure he will. He's going to have a lot of Oilers around because of the top 100 and it should be a fun weekend."
