It was a beautiful Boston day and the Edmonton Oilers had a mandated CBA day off. They were still trying to figure out where they were and how they were feeling after a Sunday afternoon arrival from their European business trip. Monday, they skated and tried to shake off some of the six-hour time difference. Then Tuesday arrived and other than sleep, rest and figuring out their body clocks, the team had the day to themselves. What to do, what to do, what to do. Five Oilers: Ryan Strome, Connor McDavid, Matt Benning, Cam Talbot and Drake Caggiula decided they wanted to check out Fenway Park, the oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball.

"We were just planning on going down there," said Strome. "But then we ran into Looch (Milan Lucic). We told him what we were doing. He made a phone call and hooked us up with someone he knew who worked at the ball park."
Instead of going on their own they were able to get the VIP view of a ballpark that has been the only home of the Boston Red Sox.
"We got to go pretty much everywhere," said Strome. "The only place we didn't get into was the clubhouse. We ended up being there for about two hours. We were on the field and we just soaked it all in."
There is a lot to soak in when you think of a ball park that is, in fact, a landmark. It has been renovated and expanded many times but it's never lost its charm or features like 'Pesky's Pole' or the famous 'Green Monster' in left field.
Drake Caggiula enjoyed the tour immensely and enjoys the game just us much.
"There's just something about baseball that is relaxing," explained the Oilers winger. "Whenever I go to a ballpark and watch a game it's just so calming."
Of course one of the reasons that's the case is because people like Caggiula, who are pro athletes and involved in a fast paced sport, don't get to relax at the rink but it's a different story at the diamond.
"There's just something about the pace and the way the game is played" said Caggiula. "Sometimes it's hard to explain. You just have to go to a game and experience it."
For anyone who has been to a ball game, they understand exactly what the 24 year old is saying.
The love of baseball is something you'll find strongly ingrained in the makeup of both Strome and Caggiula. In the case of Ryan this is a good example.
"When I was playing on Long Island," said the former Islander. "Myself and some of the guys (including John Tavares) flew up to Toronto just so we could catch one of their playoff games against Kansas City."
In fact Strome is such a Jays fan there was some awkwardness going to Fenway Park.
"I almost felt like I was selling my soul."
I think Toronto would understand and so would Caggiula's grandmother.
"I watch games with her and it's a great time,'" explained Drake. "We just kind of hang out together and it's fun for both of us."
Next season both will be back to following their beloved Toronto Blue Jays. For now they can watch the American League Championship series involving Boston and Houston unfold. The Boys of Winter enjoying their experience at Fenway Park and where games are played by the Boys of Summer.
