GAME STORY: Oilers 6, Devils 3

EDMONTON, AB - The New Jersey Devils rolled into Edmonton playing like a team possessed.
They entered Rogers Place on a three-game win streak and with a 9-2-0 record on the season but the Oilers exorcised the demon.
Edmonton snapped the Devils' hot hand on Hockey Fights Cancer Night, delivering them their third loss of the season by a 6-3 count, simultaneously ending their own two-game losing skid on a night where the secondary scoring revived as six separate Oilers scored.

Connor McDavid nabbed three assists, while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Drake Caggiula had a goal and assist each. The Oilers power play went 1-for-1 and goaltender Cam Talbot - in his 100th career win - made 31 saves.
Edmonton dominated in the faceoff circle, winning 67 percent of their draws.
"There wasn't a lot of talk on the bench about doing anything differently," said Oilers Head Coach Todd McLellan of the win. "It just went our way."
The Oilers opened the scoring with a welcomed power-play goal from Caggiula while Dalton Prout was in the box for interference.
Oscar Klefbom held the line at the point, then fed it to Mark Letestu along the half wall, who made a nifty pass to McDavid. The Oilers Captain, from near the goal line, threaded it to Caggiula backdoor for his first goal and point of the season at 5:40.
The Oilers continued attacking, getting the next one from another support scorer.
Ryan Strome made it 2-0 Oilers at 8:55 with his second of the season and fifth point on an even-strength deflection. The winger got enough of Adam Larsson's slap shot to get it past Cory Schneider's blocker side. Caggiula got the secondary assist, giving him a goal and assist through the midway mark of the game.
"Any time you get secondary scoring, it's going to help out the team," said Caggiula. "Guys that are considered that secondary scoring group, we take that to heart and want to contribute."
The Devils would answer, scoring the next two goals to burn Edmonton's two-goal lead. First, former Oiler Taylor Hall cut the lead in half at 15:00 of the opening period.
Miles Wood chucked a backhander at Talbot and the rebound popped out to Hall on the doorstep to make it 2-1 Oilers.
Jesper Bratt scored the game-tying goal at 5:02 of the middle frame. He turned and fired a wrist shot from near the point that beat a screened Talbot.

But Klefbom replied just over a minute later for his first of the campaign to regain the lead.
The Swede blasted a one-timer that beat Schneider clean. The assists went to McDavid and Pat Maroon, who extended his point-scoring streak to seven games, a new personal high.
"It's been very frustrating for the whole team, we haven't been scoring that many goals," said Klefbom. "It was a big goal for the team and for me too."
The Oilers got their fourth of the game from the second line trio of Nugent-Hopkins, Milan Lucic and Anton Slepyshev. Slepyshev swept the puck on net and Lucic fortuitously redirected it with his leg, giving the Oil a 4-2 lead at 18:56 of the second.
Edmonton exited the second period with the lead. In each of the past six games, they've entered the final frame tied.

"The big thing for us wasn't getting scored on late in the period, in fact, scoring," said McLellan. "We broke that trend and Looch's goal came late in the period and it gave us a sense of confidence going into the second intermission rather than trying to regroup."
Draisaitl made it 5-2 Edmonton in the third period. He deposited the puck into an open cage off a pass from McDavid, who recorded his third assist of the night.
"Their top line put some in the net and we made some mistakes when the most deadly player is there," said Devils Head Coach John Hynes.
New Jersey forward Brian Gibbons got the Devils within two in the third, tipping a point shot to beat Talbot but Nugent-Hopkins added an empty-netter to secure the victory as the Oilers improved to 4-7-1.
The Oilers host the Detroit Red Wings Sunday at 2:00 pm MST.
