GAME STORY: Oilers 2, Kings 0

EDMONTON, AB - Cam Talbot was king making 35 saves and recording his second consecutive shutout in the Oilers 2-0 victory over the Los Angeles Kings. It was the Oilers starter's 37th victory and seventh shutout of the season.

"The more I play, the better I feel and the more confident I get day in and day out," said Talbot. "Anytime you can pick up some big wins it just kind of carries over and you feel good going into the next one so I'm going to try to keep carrying this forward."
Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl had two assists each, Milan Lucic and Pat Maroon were the goal-scorers as the Oilers improved to 39-24-9. It was also Edmonton's fourth win in a row.
"I thought tonight the guys came out and played hard," said Maroon. "This is a huge two points."
The Oilers played a dominant first period.
With baseball season approaching, Maroon bunted in the Oilers opening marker just 1:04 into the game. After Draisaitl gained entry into the offensive zone and dished it to McDavid, the Oilers Captain put it on the net and the rebound fluttered in the air until the Big Rig batted it in. The goal was Maroon's 25th of the season, with the assists going to McDavid and Draisaitl.
McDavid almost put the Oilers up by two after streaking into the offensive zone, cutting behind the net and neatly putting the puck into the skates of Jonathan Quick. McDavid ended the night with four shots on goal and 17:58 of ice time. With the two assists, McDavid regained the scoring lead with 82 total points.
"He was exceptional I thought all night," said Oilers Head Coach Todd McLellan. "That first period, he had (the puck) on a string and he made some tremendous plays. What else can you say about him?"
Later in the period, Jake Muzzin took an interference penalty at 12:30 to put the hottest power play since February 14 - converting at a 35.3 percent clip - on the man advantage.
And the Oilers would make good on it.

From the right circle, McDavid made a centering pass to Milan Lucic busting to the net. The pass deflected off Quick's pad causing a rebound and Lucic was on the doorstep to put home his 17th of the season. Once again, McDavid and Draisaitl had the helpers.
The Oilers dictated much of the play throughout the opening 20 minutes, clogging up the neutral zone and limiting the Kings' chances. The shots were 15-7 for Edmonton.
"I thought our back-check was tremendous tonight," said Maroon. "After we lost the puck, we back-checked hard and we didn't give them much of a transition game."
Early in the second frame, Jarome Iginla and Maroon fought. That fight seemed to give the Kings some life.
"He (Iginla) asked me to go so I gave him a shot," Maroon said.
McLellan commented on Maroon's impact of late after the game.
"Patty plays better when somebody's mad at him," he said. "When he kind of goes into a bit of a funk I ask him, 'Who's mad at him on the other team?' that's part of his game. That's part of the fabric of who he is and why he got here. He has to maintain that."
The best chance for the Kings came five minutes into the second period. Jordan Nolan caught Marian Gaborik skating to the net and fed him a pass. Talbot flashed the leather on Gaborik's wrist shot to stifle the Slovak.
After some Oilers cycling behind the Kings' net, Brayden McNabb cross-checked Benoit Pouliot. McNabb would go to the box for cross-checking, giving the Oilers another power play opportunity. The Oilers could not convert, however.
Edmonton later gave Los Angeles their own look on the power play. Eric Gryba took a holding penalty at 17:23 but the Oilers would mitigate the attempt.
After two periods, Talbot had 26 saves and the Oilers were up by two.
Maroon almost added his second of the game just under five minutes into the third period. He approached on a 2-on-1 and elected to shoot. Quick made the initial save and another on the rebound.
At 17:04, Zack Kassian got a delay of game penalty to give the Kings a chance to cut the lead in half. The Kings offence stayed flat, however.
Talbot's 35-save performance was enough to give the Oilers back-to-back 2-0 wins before they depart for a short two-game road trip.
On that road trip, the Oilers will face the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday then the Colorado Avalanche Thursday.
