"It's really unfortunate that that's the way we come out to play after a loss last night," said Milan Lucic post-game. "We got to find some consistency in our game."
The Oilers scored twice in the third period, bringing them two goals from erasing the deficit but couldn't complete the comeback.
"It's frustrating," said Draisaitl, who is up to 59 points.
"We take two steps ahead, and then two steps back. one ahead, one back. Go up, go down... we got to figure it out."
Nino Niederreiter scored on the Canes' first shot of the game then once again at 11:02 of the opening period, as the Hurricanes stormed out to a commanding 3-1 lead in the first.
The newly acquired Hurricane - traded from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Victor Rask on Thursday - placed a wrist shot just above Talbot's right pad 28 seconds into the game to start the flurry.
The Hurricanes continued picking up wind as the period continued.
With Talbot out of position following a rebound, Andrei Svechnikov scored by redirecting a slap shot from the point before the Oilers netminder could recover.
Niederreiter's second as a Cane came after he won a puck battle behind the Oilers goal-line then slipped a shot 5-hole on Edmonton's keeper.
Talbot was pulled after the goal, bringing in Koskinen for the remainder of the match.
Edmonton registered their first shot on goal at 10:33 of the period, and was able to score before the end of the frame.
Manning potted his first in orange and blue by depositing a slot shot high blocker on Petr Mrazek to get Edmonton on the board.
All four first-period goals came at even strength, prompting Oilers Head Coach Ken Hitchcock to criticize his club's 5-on-5 performance.
"Our 5-on-5 play isn't good enough," he said. "We give up too many quality chances and too many pucks come back at us. We're not playing well 5-on-5 and it hurts us a lot."
Carolina didn't slow down in the second, scoring three more times in the period to double their lead.
