MONTREAL, QC - The Oilers settled for back-to-back single points on back-to-back days with back-to-back overtime defeats as they dropped a 4-3 decision in Montreal on Sunday afternoon.
Edmonton held a 4-2 lead in the third period in Philadelphia on Saturday but ended up with a 5-4 OT defeat. Today in Montreal, they saw their 3-2 lead in the final frame disappear before Jonathan Drouin tallied the sudden-death game-winner.

Inside the Oilers Blog
"It's disappointing to play this well on this road trip," Oilers Head Coach Ken Hitchcock said of his team's performances over the weekend. "We pretty much maxed out but we need wins not one-pointers."
The affliction that prevented the Oilers from securing two points instead of one on Saturday in Philadelphia reared its ugly head during the first period in Montreal as well, as Matt Benning was called for a slashing minor just 1:34 into the game and Shea Weber delivered a booming one-timer goal on the ensuing power play to give the home team a 1-0 advantage.
However, Edmonton reversed its fortune later in the frame, converting on a power play of their own to tie the game. Technically, Max Domi's goaltender interference minor had just expired, but the Oilers still had a five-on-four advantage in the offensive zone when Darnell Nurse's point shot hit Milan Lucic in front and landed right on Leon Draisaitl's stick for the backhand tap-in.
The fortuitous bounce gave the German all-star his 28th goal and 62nd point of the season, putting him two tallies back of Connor McDavid for the team lead.
There was a scary moment in the opening frame as well when Lucic and Montreal defenceman Victor Mete collided behind the Canadiens net, with Mete's head striking the end boards. The second-year rearguard stayed on the ice for a minute or two but was able to leave on his own accord to stick-taps from both teams and applause from the capacity crowd at Bell Centre.
Montreal outshot Edmonton 13-7 in the opening frame, with netminder Mikko Koskinen making several high-quality saves, highlighted by a pad stop on Phillip Danault.
Koskinen also came quite close to committing grand larceny on Domi early in the middle frame but the forward's wraparound found the back of the net at 1:09 to re-establish Montreal's lead.
The man advantage was kind to the Oilers once again as they were able to net the equalizer at the 8:05 mark with McDavid's second goal of the weekend and 31st of the season. With Jordie Benn in the box for hooking Jujhar Khaira, Nurse fired another point shot on net, which was blocked, but Ryan Nugent-Hopkins rifled the loose puck over to McDavid for the one-timer goal.

Drouin's OT winner lifts Canadiens past Oilers, 4-3

The Oilers power-play prowess continued in the middle frame as Draisaitl drilled home his second of the afternoon on a similar turn of events. This time it was Nugent-Hopkins' initial shot that was denied, but Quebec native Alex Chiasson got the rebound in the slot and slid a perfect pass over to the German for the no-doubt finish as he moved up to 29 tallies on the season.
While Draisaitl had a pair of goals through 40 minutes, Nurse and Nugent-Hopkins had a pair of helpers, bringing Nurse up to 26 points which ties his previous career high set last season. Nurse - who turns 24 on Monday - also had one career power-play point prior to this season, but he's already up to one goal and six helpers on the PP in 2018-19 as he fills in for Oscar Klefbom on the top unit.
The Oilers maintained their one-goal cushion until Jesperi Kotkaniemi's crafty backhand tied the game at 3-3 at the 13:35 mark of the third period. Neither team could tally the winner in regulation, paving the way for Drouin's OT heroics.

"Two big points for us this weekend, but in my eyes it probably should have been four," said Draisaitl, who was selected as the game's second star for his efforts.
"In my mind, we deserved more than we got today," added Koskinen, who turned aside 23 of 27 shots. "At least we got one point, but at this point we need two basically every night and it's not good enough."
With their weekend back-to-back on the road in the books, the Oilers return to Rogers Place on Tuesday to battle the surging Chicago Blackhawks, who have won four consecutive games.
