EDMONTON, AB -Oilers defence prospect Dmitri Samorukov scored just 51 seconds into his KHL debut on Wednesday, setting a new league record.
The 21-year-old, who was loaned to CSKA Moscow in July, blasted a slap-shot from the point to give his team an early lead, recording the quickest goal in the history of the KHL's Opening Cup game.
Former Oilers forward Anton Slepyshev gave CSKA a 2-1 lead on Ak Bars Kazan early in the third period, but Ak Bars responded with the equalizer and overtime winner to open the 2020-21 KHL season with a 3-2 decision.

Samorukov, who was selected 84th overall by the Oilers at the 2017 NHL Draft, scored two goals and eight assists in 47 games with the Bakersfield Condors during the 2019-20 season, which was his first professional campaign.
Prior to joining Edmonton's AHL affiliate squad, the offensive blueliner played three seasons with the Ontario Hockey League's Guelph Storm, scoring 73 points in 83 regular season and playoff games in 2018-19 to lead the Storm to an OHL championship.
Oilers forward prospect Kirill Maksimov is also listed on CSKA's roster but did not play in the season opener. Edmonton's 146th-overall pick in 2017 also made his pro debut with Bakersfield last season, scoring five goals and eight assists in 53 games.
