Friends, football & "Private Eyes"

by Tom Gilbert / Edmonton Oilers
I just got back from the morning skate and wanted to give a quick update before going out to grab some food. I had a few friends, including my younger brother, come out for a visit last weekend so that was really nice. It's tough when people come to visit because you can't really do a lot except on off days. I took them to West Ed for a bit of shopping and tried to show them a bit of my life and the city. We went out to my favorite restaurants and they also got to watch two games, which was great.

The Super Bowl was a bit disappointing. We had friendly bets going on in the locker room and I had Arizona, so even though it was a fun game to watch it was pretty disappointing in the end. Pretty much the whole team watched it at Dustin Penner's house and it was fun to eat some pizza, play some cards and get some guy time in. We all appreciated the afternoon game that day because we could wake up, play, and then enjoy the rest of the day. I wish we had more afternoon games.

I don't have much else to talk about but I wanted to answer the Private Eyes question a few of you had posted. It started last year when we went on that stretch over the last 20 games. Us young guys had never heard it before but we soon figured out that it's just one of those songs that you want to hear all the time. It gets everyone going with the clapping and everything so it's something you look forward to after a win.

Time to eat so I'll talk to you next week.
Tom
