The Locker Room Sale presented by FORD felt like a game-winning goal for both Oilers fans and the Edmonton community. While fans enjoyed exclusive deals and had the opportunity to meet Oilers players, Grant Fuhr and WHL Champion Oil Kings, the excitement spilled into Oil Country as well.
One lucky fan especially felt FORD’s dedication to Oil Country. Jeff Baron’s $221.50 purchase was reimbursed courtesy of FORD as his receipt was randomly selected from the Locker Room Sale. Baron is going into this third year as a Season Seat Holder with his family and was at Rexall Place enjoying time with his three young sons Brendan, 13, Kaidan, 6, and Blake, 4.
“I was shocked because I have never won anything before,” said Baron. “Since there were hundreds of names that could have been drawn, I thought for sure it would be someone else, I couldn’t believe I was chosen.”
A life-long Oilers fan and minor hockey coach, Jeff’s winning receipt included an Oilers padfolio, a Hemsky signed, game-used stick for his 13 year-old son’s birthday, two Oilers tattoo sleeves for his four and six year-old boys, plus a Glenn Anderson silver retirement puck for his brother’s birthday.
It was a very Happy Birthday for his 13 year-old son Brendan as Hemsky is by far his favourite Oiler. “He’s a huge Hemsky fan, he has an autographed jersey already and I got this for him to add to his collection,” said Baron. “My son shoots right as well and he just loves Hemsky’s style of play.”
The Locker Room Sale proved to be a completely selfless day for Jeff as he made sure those close to his heart were happy with their new Oilers merchandise. “I don’t usually buy anything for myself; I buy for everybody else because I think they’ll enjoy it. I like it this way; it’s just how I am.”
As this true Oilers fan prides himself in giving to help make others happy, FORD too, makes sure that its community impact is positive.
For every test drive during FORD’s “Drive One for your Community” event, $20 was donated to the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF). Despite the rainfall, enthusiastic fans lined Rexall Place for the opportunity to test drive a variety of SUVs, cars, crossovers and trucks providing FORD the opportunity to donate over $4,000 to the Foundation. FORD’s admirable commitment to the community will help the EOCF change lives in Oil Country through their support of education and health & wellness in youth activities.
After each FORD test drive, fans were given the exclusive opportunity to tour the Oilers Dressing Room, a special experience that has never been offered before. Participating in this event, Jeff hit the road in the brand new FORD Explorer giving his three boys the opportunity to experience the Oilers Dressing Room first hand.
“We were so curious about the Oilers Dressing Room but to actually see all of the separate rooms like the hot tub room, weight room, it was neat to see it all together,” said Baron. “It was really special to see it all up close.”
It also proved to be a day full of father-son memories. “Brendan really liked the trophies and being able to see the Stanley Cups from the five years the Oilers were champions. Seeing the banners of the retired numbers in the room was a really big highlight for him too.”
As for the four and six year-old, “Blake and Kaidan were mesmerized with the Oilers dressing room paying special attention to the mini rink on the floor. The little guys loved seeing where Hall and Nugent-Hopkins sit in the room.”
In addition to the Locker Room Sale, the 2012 Locker Room Online Charity Auction presented by FORD came to a close, marking another successful season of online charity auctions for the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation.
FORD understands that you can go further by giving back and this year’s Locker Room Sale was a testament to its passion and dedication for Oil Country.
