The 2017 NHL Draft is this weekend in Chicago and as they do each year, the Oilers TV Sport Chek Panelists broke down the first round and gave their picks.

Tom Gazzola, once again, lucked into the first-overall pick, and Oilers TV's Lead Reporter has Nico Hischier going to New Jersey over Nolan Patrick.

For the Oilers at 22, Kailer Yamamoto from the WHL's Spokane Chiefs was a popular pick among the panelists.

Both Gazzola and Bob Stauffer aren't thoroughly convinced Yamamoto will be around when the Oilers make their pick, but they selected the small, skilled right winger. Jack Michaels provided a different option for the Oilers, selecting Lias Andersson, the Swedish centre.

The trio debated and discussed other skaters who could be available or chosen by the club if they stay at 22.

In a special third segment, the Sport Chek Panel talked expansion with the Las Vegas Golden Knights entering the League. Gazzola, Stauffer and Michaels each gave their Vegas rosters and discussed the Golden Knights and 2017 NHL Expansion Draft.

Also keeping with tradition, our staff, along with the panelists, put their picks to "paper" with our individual mock drafts. Head Writer Chris Wescott also believes Yamamoto could be the pick for the Oil at 22, while Staff Writer Paul Gazzola likes a Finnish winger for Edmonton in that spot.
