Edmonton Oilers make seven selections at 2017 NHL Draft

Including one goaltender, two defencemen and four forwards

The Edmonton Oilers selected a total of seven players on June 23-24 at the 2017 NHL Draft in Chicago, including one goaltender, two defencemen and four forwards.

The Oilers also completed one trade, sending two draft picks (82nd, 126th) to Arizona in order to obtain the 78th pick in the third round, a pick that was used to select goaltender Stuart Skinner.

KAILER YAMAMOTO

Right Wing

5'8"   153 lbs.   Shoots: Right

Born: September 29, 1998; Spokane, WA

Has just completed his third season in Spokane, finishing second in WHL scoring in 2016-17, with 99 points (42G, 57A) in 65 games … Also named to the 2016-17 WHL Western Conference Second All-Star Team … Invited to attend the U.S. National Junior Team's World Juniors Summer Showcase in August 2017 … Played for the U.S. National Men's Under-18 Team at the 2016 Under-18 World Championship in Grand Forks, North Dakota, posting 13 points (7G, 6A) in seven games, and winning a bronze medal. …Plays with his older brother Keanu in Spokane … As a youngster, his power skating instructor was the mother of NHLer Tyler Johnson … Was selected by Spokane in the fifth round, 105th overall, in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft

Born: November 11, 1998; Edmonton, AB 

Has just completed his third full season with the WHL's Lethbridge Hurricanes … Invited to attend Canada's National Junior Team development camp in August, 2017 … Played for Canada at the 2015 World U18 Championship in Grand Forks, ND, finishing fourth … Played for Canada's Under-17 program, on Team Canada Black, at the 2014 World Under-17 Challenge

DMITRI SAMORUKOV 

Defenceman 

6'2" 180 lbs.   Shoots: Left

Born: June 16, 1999; Volgograd, RUS 

Has just completed his first season with the OHL's Guelph Storm … Helped Russia win bronze at the 2017 World U18 Men's Championship … Won a silver medal with Russia's Under-17 Team at the 2015 World Under-17 Challenge … Played for Russia's National Men's Under-18 Team as an underage player at the 2016 World U18 Men's Championship … A first round pick, second overall, by Guelph in the 2016 CHL Import Draft

OSTAP SAFIN

Born: February 11, 1999; Prague, CZE

Split his club season between HC Sparta Praha's senior, under-20 and under-18 teams … Represented the Czech Republic at both the Ivan Hlinka Memorial and the 2017 World U18 Men's Championship … Helped the Czech Republic's National Men's Under-18 Team win its first gold medal at the 2016 Ivan Hlinka Memorial … Appeared in his first game for HC Sparta Praha in the Czech Extraliga in 2015-16 as a 16 year old … In addition to world championships and the Ivan Hlinka Memorial, he has appeared in 64 international games for the Czech junior program, posting 42 points (24G, 18A)

KIRILL MAKSIMOV

Born: June 1, 1999; Moscow, RUS 

Has just completed his second season in the OHL, and first with the Niagara IceDogs … Was acquired by Niagara in a trade with Saginaw on Jan. 10, 2017 in exchange for defenceman Hayden Davis along with two draft picks … He helped Russia win a bronze medal at the 2017 World U18 Men's Championship … Also played for Russia, as an underage player, at the 2016 World U18 Men's Championship … In the two seasons prior to his playing in the OHL. He played for the Toronto Jr Canadians minor midget program … Selected in the second round, 38th overall, by Saginaw in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection

Has just completed a season with the Selects Hockey Academy of the USPHL U18 … Also played with the U.S. National Team Development Program, appearing in a total of 16 games with the U17, U18 and junior teams … Will join the BCHL's Chilliwack Chiefs in 2016-17 … Committed to play at Michigan State University in 2019-20 … Attended the U.S. Boys Select 17 Player Development Camp in August 2016 … Son of former NHL forward Rod Brind'amour
