The Edmonton Oilers announced today, they have selected the following players in the 2014 NHL Draft:
Leon Draisaitl – C (1st round, 3rd overall) – Prince Albert Raiders (WHL)
Draisaitl, 18, appeared in 64 games in 2013-14, posting a career high in both goals and assists (38-67-105), while recording 24 penalty minutes. In four playoff games, he tallied three points (1G, 2A) and four penalty minutes. Draisaitl also finished tied for fourth in WHL scoring with 105 points and ranked third in assists (67). He also participated in the 2014 Canadian Hockey League Top Prospects Game.
William Lagesson – D (4th round, 91st overall) – Frolunda Jr. (SWE)
Lagesson, 18, spent the 2013-14 season with Forlunda Jr., recording a career high 20 points (8G, 12A), 30 penalty minutes and a plus 27 rating in 44 games. The native of Goteborg, Sweden has represented his country several times internationally, most recently at the 2013 Under-18 World Junior Hockey Championship and the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.
Zach Nagelvoort – G (4th round, 111th overall) – University of Michigan (Big-10)
Nagelvoort, 20, spent last season with the University of Michigan appearing in 24 games with a 11-9-3 record, posting a 2.20 goals against average, a .929 save percentage and one shutout as a freshman with the Wolverines. The Holland, Michigan native set a school record for most saves in a game, making 63 saves versus Penn State in the first round of the Big Ten tournament on March 20, 2014.
Liam Coughlin – LW (5th round, 130th overall) – Vernon Vipers (BCHL)
Coughlin, 19, appeared in 53 games in 2013-14 with the Vernon Vipers, registering 45 points (18G, 27A) and 70 penalty minutes. The 6’3”, 201-pound forward, recorded 13 points (7G, 6A) and 14 penalty minutes in 19 playoff games. The South Boston, Massachusetts native has committed to Boston University for the 2014-15 season.
Tyler Vesel – C (6th round, 153rd overall) – Omaha Lancers (USHL)
Vesel, 20, posted 71 points (33G, 38A), 22 penalty minutes and a plus 40 rating in 49 games last season with the Omaha Lancers; his 71 points ranked third in USHL scoring and second on the team. The Rochester, Minnesota native appeared in four playoff games, notching four points (3G, 1A) and a plus four rating.
Keven Bouchard – G (7th round, 183rd overall) – Val d’Or Foreurs (QMJHL)
Bouchard, 18, spent last season with the Val d’Or Foreurs, posting a 17-6-1 record in 27 games. The 6’3”, 205-pound goaltender, registered a 2.95 goals against average, a .887 save percentage and two shutouts.
