Eakins Stresses Puck Control

by Chris Wescott / Edmonton Oilers

Puck protection is a premium for the Edmonton Oilers new Head Coach Dallas Eakins.

Eakins addressed the media on Saturday evening before the Young Stars Class game between the Oilers Prospects and the Winnipeg Jets Prospects.

While he touched on several topics, it was clear that puck control and protection were very important to the Oilers new bench boss.

“The one thing I will say about our group is that we will be very, very aggressive in our defensive zone and in the neutral zone when we don’t have the puck,” said Eakins. “We will have a definite plan when we don’t have the puck in the offensive zone.

“But the biggest thing I want this group to do is have the puck. We are not going to give it up and if we do, we are going to have a quick and immediate plan to get it back.”

Eakins will get to address this with his team personally when the Oilers start their training camp on September 11.
