DRAFT: Oilers select Bourgault 22nd overall in 2021 NHL Draft

The centre posted 20 goals and 20 assists in 29 games for the Shawinigan Cataractes during the 2020-21 QMJHL season

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Oilers have selected Shawinigan Cataractes forward Xavier Bourgault 22nd overall in the 2021 NHL Draft.

The 6'0", 172-pound Quebec native, who turned 18 last October, is coming off a 40-point season (20G, 20A) with six penalty minutes and a +7 plus/minus rating in 29 games.

Bourgault led the Cataractes in goals (20), ranked third in points (40), and fourth in assists (20). Through 154 career QMJHL games, Bourgault has 131 points (60G, 71A) and 38 penalty minutes.

Bourgault also competed for Hockey Canada at the 2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, appearing in five games and recording two assists.

Just prior to taking Bourgault, the club swapped its first-round selection (20th overall) for the Minnesota Wild's first-round pick (22nd overall) as well as its third-round pick (90th overall).
