(Edmonton, AB) – The Edmonton Oilers Event Team and Community Partnerships Staff are getting ready to hit the road once again for the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Clinic presented by Cenovus. New this year, two communities in Oil Country will play host to the weekend event - Bonnyville and Fort McMurray.
Held at the Centennial Centre in Bonnyville from April 25 – 27 and the MacDonald Island Park in Fort McMurray from May 2 – 4, the clinics are free of charge to 100 lucky participants and gives players aged seven – 13 the opportunity to experience high-calibre training while further developing their skills.
“The Edmonton Oilers are extremely proud of the relationships we enjoy with our friends and neighbours who live in the communities of Oil Country,” said Oilers President & COO Patrick LaForge. “Thanks to the generosity of Cenovus, we are able to bring a top-notch hockey development clinic to young grassroots players in two Northern Alberta communities this year.”
To kick-start the weekend, all Bonnyville and Fort McMurray residents are invited to a complimentary welcome BBQ held on the Friday night. Hockey clinic participants will have the chance to register while the community enjoys free food, a fun atmosphere and the presence of current and alumni Edmonton Oilers players onsite to meet and mingle with guests. The Oilers Event Staff will also be on-hand with games, giveaways and unique trophies and collectables right from the Oilers dressing room, including the Molson Cup.
"Cenovus is excited to once again participate with the Oilers in bringing the clinic to young hockey players in northern Alberta," said Vicki Reid, Cenovus Director, Community Affairs. "Along with hockey skills, participants are learning how to live more active and healthy lives, and they have a lot of fun doing it at the same time. We want communities where we live and operate to be better off because we're there."
The Edmonton Oilers Hockey Clinic will follow on Saturday and Sunday featuring multiple daily on-ice sessions, dry land training and nutrition clinics to help further the development of each participant. Oilers Grassroots Staff and Hockey Canada will be onsite to ensure the students have a great learning experience while having fun.
All players aged seven to 13 that are interested in participating, male or female, are invited to register by 5:00pm MDT on Monday, March 17, 2014. Last year saw over 400 hopefuls register for the 100 available spots, chosen at random by a draw.
