EDMONTON, AB - Back on the ice and back in the mix.
Oilers forward Kailer Yamamoto skated at Rogers Place on Monday with many of his teammates, two days after signing a one-year, $1.175 million contract extension for the 2021-22 season.
"Sitting out with contract negotations was tough and very stressful, but being able to get back on the ice with the guys felt amazing," Yamamoto told Bob Stauffer on Monday's edition of Oilers Now on 630 CHED, as the right-winger gets ready to officially report for Edmonton's Training Camp on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old was a restricted free agent following the 2020-21 campaign that saw him score eight goals and 13 assists in 52 games, plus one assist in four post-season appearances.
"I'm not afraid to bet on myself," Yamamoto said of the one-year deal compared to a multi-season contract. "I'm a year older and I feel a lot more confident. I didn't have the best last half of the year, but I'm putting that behind me and looking forward to this year."
