Edmonton Oilers forward Tyler Pitlick has stepped his game up in hopes of making the Oilers roster.
He impressed Head Coach Dallas Eakins last night in the Oilers pre-season game against the Winnipeg Jets earning praise from the bench boss.
Pitlick says that was his goal all along.
“I was trying to (impress the coaches),” said Pitlick. “I know what I have to do to try and make this team. I know what they need. They need a guy that skates and get in on the forecheck and isn’t afraid to hit guys. I’m just trying to hit everything I skate past and do the other things too.”
Eakins told the media after last night's game that he's been wanting to send Pitlick down to the American Hockey League but Pitlick has put a halt to those plans with his solid, physical play.
After hearing that comment, Pitlick is grateful and more motivated to continue his success.
“It feels good. I mean, obviously it’s tough to hear they wanted to send me down but it’s also a huge compliment that I’ve made them change their mind as well and hopefully I can keep making them want to keep me.”
