BLOG: Oilers take to the ice for informal skate

Leon Draisaitl, Mark Letestu, Kris Russell, Darnell Nurse and Drake Caggiula were among those skating

Is it October yet?

Not quite, but that hasn't stopped a group of Oilers players and prospects from getting on the ice at Rogers Place for an informal skate.

Leon Draisaitl, Cam Talbot, Kris Russell, Darnell Nurse, Mark Letestu, Drake Caggiula and Jesse Puljujarvi were on hand for the skate.

Prospects including defencemen Ryan Mantha, Ziyat Paigin and goaltender Shane Starrett also participated. The prospects will converge in Penticton later this week for the 2017 Young Stars Classic.

"I like coming a little bit early," said Draisaitl, who signed an eight-year contract in August. "It's nice to get settled in and get used to the time change and that kind of stuff."

After a lengthy playoff run, which saw the Oilers lose in Game 7 of Round 2 against the Anaheim Ducks, the players are aware of what to expect internally and are excited to start training camp.

"We all know where we're at," said Draisaitl. "It's a new chance for a lot of guys to show what they can do and I think everyone is really excited."
