Russell played 68 games for the Oilers last season, recording 13 points (1-12-13) and 23 penalty minutes. In 13 playoff games, Russell had four assists.

"I'm excited," said Russell. "Obviously, they gave me an opportunity late at the start of the season last year and I was very thankful for that.

"I'm really happy to continue on with them."

The blueliner spent most of the last season paired with Andrej Sekera. Russell played the third most minutes per game for Edmonton last season (21:13) behind only Oscar Klefbom and Sekera.

Russell previously played for Columbus, St. Louis, Calgary and Dallas. He has 641 regular season games of experience and 49 in the post-season.

The Caroline, AB native was a pending UFA.
