The Edmonton Oilers have signed Connor McDavid to an eight-year contract extension with an AAV of $12.5 million, the club announced today. The new contract kicks in beginning 2018-19, as he is currently in the final year of his entry-level contract.

McDavid, 20, is coming off an extremely productive sophomore season, in which the centre compiled a league-leading 100 points (30-70-100).

In addition to his Art Ross Trophy win, after leading the League in points, McDavid was also given the Ted Lindsay Award as the NHL's most outstanding player and the Hart Memorial Trophy as the MVP.

McDavid, taken first overall in 2015, has 148 points (46-102-148) in 127 NHL games. In 13 playoff games last season, McDavid scored five goals and added four assists.

On October 5, 2016, McDavid was named the 15th captain in franchise history, and became the youngest captain in NHL history.
