EDMONTON, AB - Several Oilers mourned the loss of The Tragically Hip lead singer and Canadian rock legend Gord Downie on Wednesday.

"Sad news in the music world and throughout Canada," said Oilers forward Milan Lucic. "Gord is a big part of every Canadian's life. I grew up listening to his music, all his stuff was on the radio all the time. I know he was a big (Boston) Bruins fan as well and a fan of mine. Unfortunately, I never got to meet him personally but I've always been a fan of his.

"He lived a great life and he meant a lot to a lot of hockey players and Canadians."

Said defenceman Eric Gryba: "Just like almost any other Canadian kid out there, I loved the Hip. They're an iconic band, Gord is an iconic person in our country and he's going to be missed. His journey was inspirational to many.

"Growing up as a Canadian hockey kid, the Hip were part of that life."
