EDMONTON, AB - Communication is key.
And Oilers Assistant Coaches Glen Gulutzan, Trent Yawney and Manny Viveiros are aware of that. The new assistants have begun conversing with their player personnel.
"I've already talked to a couple of the new coaches, they've called and introduced themselves," Oilers goaltender Cam Talbot said Tuesday at the Syncrude Oil Country Championship Celebrity Pro-Am.
"I like the new direction that everything is going."
Viveiros, 52, also participated in the Celebrity Pro-Am. The former Swift Current Broncos Head Coach has been making his introductions, having upbeat conversations with many Oilers about the commencement of the 2018-19 season.
"I've talked to almost all the kids on the team and they're all ready to get going and have a good year," Viveiros said. "I can't wait to get going here. We got a few more weeks before we really get going here but it's really exciting."
Yawney - a defensive sensei - has also been making his rounds with the defencemen, touching base with many of them before they return to Edmonton for training camp. Yawney's extensive ability to develop young D-men enticed Matt Benning.
"I've heard great things about all the coaches but Trent, being the D coach, it's exciting that he's done such a good job with his younger defencemen on previous teams," Benning said.
