BLOG: Oilers acquire rights to Nikitin

The Edmonton Oilers have acquired the rights to defenceman Nikita Nikitin from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a 5th round selection in the 2014 NHL Draft.

Nikitin, 28, has spent four seasons in the NHL with the St. Louis Blues and Columbus Blue Jackets. His best point production came in the 2011-12 season, when he posted 32 (7-25-32) in 54 games with Columbus after being acquired in a trade from St. Louis.

His is a 6-foot-4, 223 pounder from Omsk, Russia and was the 136th overall pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
