EDMONTON, AB - Edmonton's goal scorers up front this year have been Connor McDavid (5), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (5), Patrick Maroon (4), Leon Draisaitl (2), Mark Letestu (2, both on the power play), Milan Lucic (1), and Ryan Strome (1).
Every one of those forwards has seen at least some time in the top six this season. The bottom half of the forward group has been blanked thus far.
"We need to manufacture (bottom six scoring) and look at their skill set," said Head Coach Todd McLellan. "Some of them are very good forecheckers and others have the ability to get some tip-ins, deflections and screen-type goals. So there are ways of manufacturing offence, winning faceoffs and crashing the net. Not scoring is not due to lack of opportunity. Some of them have created chances for themselves or for others and they just haven't been able to finish so it's a matter of pushing a little bit and them relaxing a little bit and understanding what their strengths are and then hopefully the puck goes in for them."
The Oilers will continue to strive for balance moving forward.
