Attending Oilers Training Camp is forward Chris Kelly, who was signed to a professional tryout contract five days ago.
A veteran of over 800 National Hockey League games, the Stanley Cup champion is looking at training camp as nothing more than a chance to prove he can still compete and contribute.
"My ego's not too big," Kelly said after the first on-ice session of camp. "It's an opportunity and that's the way I'm approaching it. I'm grateful for this opportunity. You see a lot of guys done playing at my age and to have an opportunity to come to an NHL training camp is great."
The 36-year-old arrived in Edmonton a few days earlier. He participated in some informal skates with the players and got a look at the youthful lineup of the Oilers.
"You see the talent this team has and the buzz of the city and how well they did last year," he said.
Kelly registered 12 points (5G, 7A) with the Ottawa Senators in 2016-17.
Over his career, Kelly has 289 points (123G, 166A) in 833 matches.
