Oilers defensive prospect Caleb Jones is used to playing against diminutive forward Kailer Yamamoto after years of seeing him skate down the ice in the Western Hockey League.
"I've been matched against him a little bit when we've played Spokane and he's tough to handle in the corners," Jones said on Day 1 of Oilers Rookie Camp. "He's really quick and slick."
The usual combatants will represent the Oilers at the 2017 Young Stars Classic in Penticton and Jones is curious as to how opposing rearguards will defend the slippery winger.
"It'll be interesting to see how he does against older competition," Jones said. "He's definitely capable of playing in the NHL… He's a smaller guy but I wouldn't count him out."
The Oilers rookies will play prospects from the Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks and Winnipeg Jets. Then, they'll return to Edmonton to face off against the Nait-MacEwan all-star team on September 13.
