Head Coach Dallas Eakins spoke with the media after practice on Wednesday and provided his update on a few of the injuries to his players.
Goalie Viktor Fasth remains out with a neck injury and Eakins says he is now ‘day-to-day’. He also provided an update on Nail Yakupov (ankle) who should begin skating soon.
“We’re treating it as day-to-day right now,” Eakins said. “Everything seems to be going smoothly so he’s day-to-day. Who else do we got? (Yakupov) is end of the week, probably skating. Belov is good to go.”
Eakins calls Fasth’s injury a sprained neck with a headache.
“Sprained neck, headache so now you get into well which one is it, and until we know which one it is we’ll just stick with ‘we’re not sure’.”
With Fasth out, the Oilers recalled rookie goalie Laurent Brossoit from the Oklahoma City Barons. The Oilers are optimistic his services won’t be needed but depending on Fasth’s progression, Brossoit’s first action would most likely not be until the Oilers play a back-to-back series of games.
“Depending on Viktor, I’d probably just keep running with Ben,” Eakins said. “I haven’t put a whole lot of thought into it because I expect Viktor to be coming back into it. But the answer to your question is, I would probably run Ben until we got to the back-to-back then give the kid a shot.”
The Oilers next back-to-back is April 1-2, in San Jose and Anaheim.
