EDMONTON, AB - Oilers 2020 first-round draft pick Dylan Holloway is one of 47 players who will by vying for a spot on Team Canada for this year's World Juniors in Edmonton.
The 14th-overall pick from earlier this month has been invited to Hockey Canada's selection camp that will be held in Red Deer from Nov. 16 to Dec. 13, as five goaltenders, 15 defencemen and 27 forwards will compete for a chance to represent Canada at the 2021 IIHF under-20 championship, scheduled for Dec. 25 to Jan. 5 at Rogers Place.
The camp will be held at Westerner Park Centrium and Hockey Canada will be closely following enhanced measures around COVID-19 testing and team protocols. The tournament in Edmonton will be contested without fans in attendance, but the 2022 event is scheduled to return to Rogers Place and Red Deer in front of live crowds.
Holloway, one of the 27 forwards invited to the selection camp, has been training with his University of Wisconsin team for the past two months. The Big Ten season could start as early as Nov. 13, but the 19-year-old will be headed to Red Deer by then for the Hockey Canada camp.
The native of Bragg Creek, just west of Calgary, starred for the Alberta Junior Hockey League's Okotoks Oilers before making the jump to NCAA with the Badgers in 2019-20. Holloway scored eight goals and nine assists in 35 games as a freshman.
