The much anticipated return of Sam Gagner didn't have a fairytale ending as the centre's first game back from injury was spoiled by a 4-0 rout by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Despite the loss, it was good for Gagner to get back out in game action and the centre says he felt the hesitation and nerves early but settled in.
"I felt it early," said Gagner. "But I felt like I settled in. That's bound to happen, especially with an injury like this. You're going to be nervous a little bit. At the beginning, I felt like I felt my way into it a little bit and that's not something you want to do in this league. I felt better as I went along and hopefully I'll continue to get better here."
Head Coach Dallas Eakins says that Gagner will get better when he gets his legs under him.
"I like that he was making plays," said Eakins. "I didn't think his feet were moving that fast and that will come… The thing with Gagner tonight was that he was making plays and his timing will get more up to speed. I felt a few times he was coasting to make the pass where he could have drove his legs and make the play himself."
