EDMONTON, AB - Xavier Bourgault will contend for Team Canada.
The Oilers 2021 first-round draft pick has been invited to Hockey Canada's selection camp for the squad that will represent the country at this year's World Junior Championship in Edmonton and Red Deer.
Bourgault, selected 22nd overall by Edmonton this past July, will be one of 21 forwards and 35 total players competing for spots on Team Canada at the Dec. 9-12 camp in Calgary.
The 19-year-old leads the Shawinigan Cataractes in scoring with 17 goals and 16 assists in 21 games this season, with his 33 points putting him sixth in the QMJHL scoring race. Bourgault is tied for second in goals in the league and leads the QMJHL in power-play markers with 10.
The L'Islet, Que., native attended 2021 Oilers training camp and scored during his NHL pre-season debut on Sept. 26 as part of Edmonton's 4-0 victory over the Flames in Calgary.
