General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have appointed Bill Scott as General Manager of the Oklahoma City Barons.
Scott, who was recently the Director of Hockey Operations for the American Hockey League, will oversee the entire Barons’ hockey operations department.
“We feel we have secured one of the bright, young minds in the AHL with Bill,” said Tambellini. “He has several years of experience in hockey operations with the AHL and ECHL and will be an important part of our management team moving forward.”
Scott’s main duties in the AHL included creating the league schedule, assisting in determining player fines and suspensions, supervising AHL games in the regular season and playoffs and interpretation of by-laws, regulations and CBA for the member teams. He also would oversee all on-ice and off-ice officials as well as manage the on-ice branding program for the league.
Scott was born and raised in Unionville, Ontario and graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelors Degree in Business Management in 2003. He started his career by interning with the Nashville Predators in their hockey operations department and then served as the Manager of Hockey Operations for the East Coast Hockey League from 2003-2006.
In the ECHL, Scott managed the salary cap of all teams on a daily basis, created the league schedule, assisted in reviewing incidents for suspensions, oversaw all hockey publications and managed the central registry for all player transactions.
