NASHVILLE, TN - Connor McDavid has once again been named the National Hockey League's best player, by the players.

The Oilers captain kicked off the 2023 NHL Awards in Nashville by winning the fourth Ted Lindsay Award of his career (2017, 2018, 2021, 2023). McDavid has been nominated for the honour six times in his eight professional seasons.

Formerly the Lester B. Pearson Award, the Ted Lindsay Award is presented annually to the most outstanding player in the NHL as voted by fellow members of the National Hockey League Players' Association. McDavid edged out Boston Bruins forward David Pastrnak and San Jose Sharks defenceman Erik Karlsson for the honour.

"I really feel that it is the most prestigious award that's given out here tonight in terms of the hockey awards," McDavid said following the win. "I think to have your peers recognize you, they're the ones that you go to battle with each and every night, and for them to single you out, it's really special."

The 26-year-old recorded the best statistical performance of his career, leading the NHL in goals (64), assists (89), points (153), and power-play points (71) en route to becoming just the sixth player in NHL history to record at least 150 points in a season.

Since the Oilers drafted him first overall in 2015, McDavid has never finished a season averaging less than a point per game and has compiled 303 goals, 547 assists, for 850 points in only 569 regular season contests.

"On behalf of the Oilers and the entire OEG organization, we would like to congratulate Connor McDavid on winning the Ted Lindsay Award, in addition to the Art Ross and Rocket Richard trophies, for another special season," said Oilers owner Daryl Katz.

"Connor is not only this year's NHL MVP, he's an exceptional captain and inspired leader, a great teammate, and the undisputed best hockey player on the planet. He is an exceptional person both on and off the ice, and we congratulate him on another outstanding season."

The Richmond Hill, Ont. native has helped lead the Oilers to four consecutive playoff berths, including 2021-22's trip to the Western Conference Final. In 49 post-season games while donning the Blue & Orange, the forward has amassed 75 points (29G, 46A).
