SAN JOSE, CA- 13.378 seconds. That's all the time Connor McDavid needs to skate a full lap around the rink.
With that time, the Oilers captain captured his third consecutive Fastest Skater competition at the 2019 NHL All-Star Skills becoming the only player in league history to win the event three times.
For the world's fastest man on skates, the strategy is simple
"Just skate as fast as I could," laughed McDavid. "That was the strategy."
When asked if cutting his hair made a difference: "I thought so. If I had my long hair, it would be flopping all over the place. Now it's nice and short," chuckled McDavid during his on-ice interview at the SAP Center.
McDavid beat out Buffalo Sabres centre Jack Eichel - who had the event's top time before McDavid's attempt - as the 2015 2nd overall pick recorded a time of 13.582 seconds. New York Islanders centre Matthew Barzal recorded a time of 13.780 seconds to round out the top three.
Last year, McDavid became the first player to ever record back-to-back victories with a time of 13.454 seconds. His personal best was at the 2017 NHL All-Star Skills Competition in Los Angeles when he recorded a time of 13.310 seconds.
