2016 IIHF World Championships - Day 5

The Edmonton Oilers have seven players participating in the 2016 IIHF World Hockey Championships in Russia: Connor McDavid (Canada), Cam Talbot (Canada), Taylor Hall (Canada), Matt Hendricks (USA), Patrick Maroon (USA), Andrej Sekera (Slovakia) and Leon Draisaitl (Germany).

GERMANY 5, SLOVAKIA 1

Leon Draisaitl recorded an assist for Germany as they got their first win of the tournament Tuesday, a 5-1 decision against Slovakia.

Slovakia scored first at 8:42 of the opening frame, but it was all Germany from the second period on. Draisaitl’s assist came on the power-play tally, which put Germany up 3-1 in the second period.

Oilers defenceman Andrej Sekera played the second most minutes of any Slovakian skater (18:11) but was held off the statsheet.

Germany next faces Canada on Thursday at 11:15 am MT. Slovakia looks to bounce back against Belarus Wednesday at 7:15 am MT..
