The 2016 NHL Draft has some intriguing talent at the top. The Oilers currently hold the fourth-overall pick in the first round.
Edmontonoilers.com assembled their team of analysts to break down how they believe the first round will shake out at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, NY June 24-25.
Making the picks are Oilers TV Reporter and Host Tom Gazzola, edmontonoilers.com Head Writer Chris Wescott, Staff Writer Meg Tilley, Oilers Play-by-Play Announcer Jack Michaels and Radio Colour Analyst Bob Stauffer.
No trades were allowed in these mocks, which include picks 1-32. The Oilers hold the 4th and 32nd-overall picks.
Auston Matthews is the consensus first-overall pick across the board. The analysts believe Edmonton will select either Matthew Tkachuk or Jesse Puljujarvi (if available) at four.
At 32, there are ranging opinions on which direction the Oilers will go.
Michaels seems to think a goalie is in play with the Oilers second pick. He has them taking Sherwood Park's own Carter Hart.
Stauffer also stays local, predicting Edmonton nativeTyler Benson as the selection at 32. Gazzola selects Mississauga winger Nathan Bastian, while Tilley and Wescott take two different defenders.
