Sweden stuck to the theme of this tournament by surviving against underdog Belarus on Friday with a 4-2 win thanks to a late goal from Daniel Alfredsson
. Now that the Swedes have gotten their scare from an inferior team, it's on to thinking about Sunday's Pool C finale against rival Finland.
stopped to chat with NHL.com about that and more just moments after he came off the ice at Canada Hockey Place.
Here is what he had to say:
Overall it seemed like a good effort for you guys, but do you agree that in the third period we all saw some things you guys still need to shore up?
"Yeah, I do. As soon as they got their second goal you kind of saw the skill they have and they were not backing up anymore, they were going after the next goal. The first two games we hadn't played in our end much, so as soon as we started playing in our own end in the third we kind of looked a little surprised. We have to get used to that. We're going to spend more time there when we play Finland. We have to go over a few things and we'll be fine."
Your line with Peter Forsberg
and Patric Hornqvist
looked better today than it did Wednesday. Are you finding the chemistry you hope to have?
"Maybe a little bit, but I think it's still ups and downs. We have our shifts there where we are doing good things and then we are not that good for a few. We have to raise our level a bit, but it's still early in the tournament and we still have more to show. I think we only got 30 seconds on the power play today."
How about the power play as a whole. It was 1-for-4 today, which is good, but are you happy with how it looked?
"I think the Sedin line created a lot of chances on the power play and that's because they are used to playing with each other. The other groups are still learning and getting used to the different guys. I'm sure that's going to be important as we go on in the tournament."
Finally, did any of this remind you at all of that disastrous loss to Belarus in Salt Lake eight years ago?
"Of course it comes out a little bit, but they are a good team and we knew as long as they are in the game they are dangerous. We needed that fourth goal a little bit earlier. Then, it would have been easier."
