ERIE, Pa. - Zack Torquato's two goals, a short-handed marker and another in the shootout, and Jaroslav Janus made 47 saves as the Erie Otters beat the Owen Sound Attack Saturday night in OHL action.
Their efforts capped the Otters' weekend sweep of the Attack. They could match their season high of three straight wins today at Niagara.
The Otters (15-42-2-2) also matched last season's win total. They could avoid equaling the 12-year-old franchise's worst single-season record with a victory in any of their final seven games.
Torquato sparked the latest win with a game-tying, short-handed goal 39 seconds into the third period. He has three short-handed goals in the past two games and ranks among the OHL's leaders with five.
Torquato then scored on Erie's opening shootout attempt. After that, Janus followed a save against the Attack's Jordan Davis with stops against Joey Hishon and Marcus Carroll to hand the Attack their 13th straight loss. Janus stopped 44-of-47 shots in regulation and overtime, as did Owen Sound's Scott Stajcer.
The Otters scored three special-teams goals for the second straight game. Luke Gazdic and Nick Palmieri scored on the power play.
Torquato also had an assist. Hishon and Frankie Santini had two assists apiece for the Attack (20-37-2-5).
