Zacha won't participate in Czech Republic camp

by Aaron Vickers

CALGARY -- Pavel Zacha, the first-round pick by the New Jersey Devils in the 2015 NHL Draft, will not participate in the Czech Republic's national junior team evaluation camp beginning Saturday in Calgary.

Zacha has not signed a contract with the Devils and opted out of the camp for precautionary reasons.

The camp, which runs from Aug. 1-6, will feature practices and exhibition games against Canada and Russia and will help establish the roster for Czech Republic at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship. Zacha has represented the Czech Republic at the 2014 and 2015 World Juniors, as well as three times at the World Under-18 Championship and once at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup.

Zacha had 16 goals and 34 points in 37 games with the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League last season.
