KELOWNA, B.C. - Travis Yonkman had a stellar night for Swift Current, as he made 29 saves while also earning an assist in backstopping the Broncos to a 3-1 victory over the Kelowna Rockets in WHL action on Friday.
Matt Tassone, with his 16th goal of the season, Eric Doyle and Abbotsford, B.C. product Geordie Wudrick, with his 11th, scored for Swift Current (19-14-0-1), which broke open the game with three goals in the second period.
Yonkman assisted on Wudrick's goal, a breakaway marker that made it 3-0. With the win, the Broncos improved to 2-1 on a six-game road trip that includes five games against B.C. Division teams.
Colin Long, on a lengthy goal-mouth scramble to make it 3-1, replied for Kelowna (19-12-0-0), which entered the contest having won seven of its past eight games.
Up next for Kelowna is a three-game Alberta road trip that starts Sunday in Calgary with a 1 p.m. PST tilt against the Eastern Conference-leading Hitmen (27-5-1-1).
Yonkman improved to 9-4-0-1, while Kris Lazaruk made 20 saves for the Rockets.
