It was a wild third period between Sweden and Latvia on Monday at the World Championship.
And Latvia threw everything they had at Sweden in hopes of attaining quarterfinal play.
Six goals between Sweden and Latvia is what it took in the third period alone to settle the score between the two nations. With Sweden leading 2-1 heading into the final period, Latvia quickly turned the tide with two quick goals in a span of 2:31 to start the third. Latvia turned the score on its head, from trailing Sweden 2-1 to leading 3-2.
Latvia held the lead for just under six minutes before Sweden scored two quick goals of their own in a 1:09 span to take a 4-3 lead. In the final three and a half minutes of play another two goals were scored, with Latvia tying the game at 16:36. The Latvian's needed a regulation victory to secure a spot in the quarterfinals and so goalie Kristers Gudlevskis was pulled for the extra attacker, in search of the regulation win.
With the empty net available, Sweden's Dennis Rasmussen capitalized on the opportunity to score into the empty net and secure a 5-4 win for Sweden and eliminating Latvia from quarterfinal contention. The Swedes are no strangers to victories over Latvia at the World Championship, the last time Latvia beat Sweden at the tournament was back in 2009.
New Jersey Devils forward Jesper Bratt was dressed as the 13th forward for Sweden, playing three shifts and 2:44 of icetime.

CANADA 5, DENMARK 0
Canada: Damon Severson, Mackenzie Blackwood
It took Canada all of 60 seconds to take the lead on Denmark and not look back on Day 11 of the World Championship.
Canada built a 3-0 lead after the opening nine minutes and scored twice more in the second and third period on Danish goaltender Patrick Galbraith for a 5-0 shutout win.
Sam Reinhart (Buffalo Sabres) scored Canada's lone power play goal of the game to help improve the tournament best man-advantage to an incredible 62.5% efficiency.
Two members of the New Jersey Devils contributed to the Canadian win.

Defenseman Damon Severson assisted on Canada's third goal, firing a shot from the blue line that would be tipped in by Jonathan Marchessault (Vegas Golden Knights), while Severson finished the game with three shots on net and a plus-2 rating. The 24-year-old defenseman had five points in six games played at the tournament. Devils rookie netminder Mackenzie Blackwood made his first appearance of the tournament playing in the final 9:03 in relief of Carter Hart (Philadelphia Flyers) after Canada had already built a 5-0 lead. Blackwood has been with Team Canada as the third goaltender on the squad and Monday was his first opportunity to get into game action and his first official appearance with the Canadian men's national team.
