World Championship: Klingberg, Janmark take home gold medals

John Klingberg and Mattias Janmark are taking home gold medals from the 2018 IIHF World Championship in Denmark after Sweden defeated Switzerland, 3-2, in a shootout Sunday in Copenhagen.

Filip Forsberg scored the winning goal in the shootout for the Swedes, who won gold at the World Championship for a second straight year. Gustav Nyquist and Mika Zibanejad scored in regulation for Sweden to match regulation goals by Nino Niederreiter and Timo Meier for Switzerland. After a scoreless 20-minute 4-on-4 overtime, Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Forsberg tallied in the shootout for Sweden while Sven Andrighetto scored the lone goal for the Swiss.
Klingberg was superb on the blue line for Sweden Sunday, logging a game-high 35:03 including 18:22 over the final 40 minutes of the game. Klingberg had no points, four shots on goal, and an even rating in the game.

Klingberg, who finished the tournament with six points (one goal, five assists) and a plus-6 rating in 10 games, was the named the tournament's best defenseman by the IIHF Directorate.
Janmark had no points, one shot on goal and an even rating Sunday. He finished the tournament with 10 points (four goals, six assists) and a plus-8 rating in 10 games and tied for ninth in tournament scoring.
The United States ook the bronze medal, defeating Canada, 4-1. Nick Bonino's goal with 6:39 remaining snapped a 1-1 tie, and the USA tacked on two empty-net goals for its third bronze medal in the past six years at the World Championship. Canada did not medal at the tournament for the first time since 2014.
