Winterhawks narrow Chiefs's series lead to 2-1 in WHL playoff action @NHLdotcom

SPOKANE, Wash. - Defenceman Troy Rutkowski scored the game winner as the Portland Winterhawks beat the Spokane Chiefs 2-1 in Western Hockey League playoff action Wednesday.

Spokane still leads the best-of-seven first-round series 2-1 and will return home for Game 4 on Friday.

Nino Niederreiter also scored for Portland while Kyle Beach replied for Spokane.

Mac Carruth made 30 saves for Portland, while James Reid stopped 47 shots for Spokane.
