Eichel's goal in OT lifts Golden Knights past Jets

LAS VEGAS --Jack Eichel scored with seven seconds remaining in overtime to give the Vegas Golden Knights a 2-1 victory against the Winnipeg Jets at T-Mobile Arena on Sunday.

Eichel skated all the way around the offensive zone before changing directions on Mark Scheifele at the blue line, moving down the left wing, and cutting across the crease and tucking the puck past Connor Hellebuyck's left pad.
"I could hear the bench saying there wasn't a whole lot of time left," Eichel said. "I knew they had some tired bodies on the ice, so I wanted to challenge them. I wanted to get to my backhand side. I'm a little more dynamic that way. … I wanted to get a quick play to the net. I was able to get a step and find a way to score."

Golden Knights forward Mark Stone said: "When I saw Jack with the puck, I was trying to take it like it was basketball, you know? Let him kind of isolate, and we tried to run a little crisscross and get them confused. He took a power move to the net, and it's a beautiful and timely goal."
Eichel and Stone each had a goal and an assist for Vegas (8-2-0), which has won four in a row (outscored opponents 13-4). Adin Hill made 23 saves.
"Our top guys get a goal for us," Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy said. "Tough for 'Hillie' right? He doesn't see much. All of a sudden in the third period, now he has to be relied on. He gets paid to do his job, and he did it and did it well."
Hellebuyck made 46 saves for Winnipeg (5-3-1), which had won three straight.
It was Hellebuyck's second straight game making at least 40 saves.
"Ideally, you don't give up that many shots, but that's my job back there to be around when I'm needed," Hellebuyck said. "Two games I was needed. Fortunately, we got five out of six (points)."
Hellebuyck kept the game scoreless at 11:10 of the first period with a highlight-reel save. Stone got the puck near the right post and sent a backdoor pass to Nicolas Hague, whose shot into a wide-open net was stopped by Hellebuyck's outstretched stick. Stone then tried to jam in the rebound, but Hellebuyck twisted his body around and got his blocker on the puck.
"He's an outstanding goaltender," Winnipeg assistant Scott Arniel said. "We don't want to put him through this. We're hoping we can build our defensive and all-around game so he doesn't have to face so much rubber."

The Golden Knights held a 33-8 advantage in shots through two periods.
"It was almost comical honestly," Stone said. "At the end of the day, we won four in a row not capitalizing on all our chances. So there are things we can do to make sure those shots go in, but I'm still comfortable with the way we are playing."
Adam Lowry gave the Jets a 1-0 lead 13 seconds into the third. He scored on his own rebound after redirecting a shot from Neal Pionk.
"I pretty much told them after the second period it wasn't going to get much uglier," Arniel said. "We scored right away on the short shift."
Stone tied it 1-1 at 7:13, batting in his own rebound below the right circle.
"Sometimes you see special play, but sometimes it's the gross play (that gets past the goalie)," Stone said. "I kind of double-clutched and let a burger of a shot go on net. I just kind of swung away and it went in."
