The Winnipeg Jets placed forward Patrik Laine on injured reserve Friday with a concussion.

The move is retroactive to Jan. 7, when Laine was injured 5:51 into the third period of a 4-3 loss at the Buffalo Sabres by a hit from defenseman Jake McCabe in the neutral zone. Laine was helped off the ice and did not return.

Laine, 18, leads NHL rookies with 37 points, and his 21 goals are tied for first with Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Laine earlier this week was named to the Central Division team for the 2017 Honda NHL All-Star Game.

The Jets recalled defenseman Julian Melchiori from Manitoba of the American Hockey League. Melchiori, 25, has six points in 31 games with Manitoba and no points in four games with the Jets.
