Hellebuyck makes 40 saves in Jets' comeback win

LOS ANGELES -- Axel Jonsson-Fjallby scored the go-ahead goal in the third period of the Winnipeg Jets' 6-4 win against the Los Angeles Kings at Crypto.com Arena on Thursday.

Adam Lowry had a goal and an assist, and Connor Hellebuyck made 40 saves for the Jets (4-3-0), who opened a three-game road trip. Winnipeg plays at the Arizona Coyotes on Friday in the second game of a back to back.
"I know it's not VHS tape, but it's in the garbage," Jets associate coach Scott Arniel said. "We won't even [look at it], we'll just put that one aside. … There's a lot of mistakes that happened, but there's a lot of good things also. We found a way, and you can never criticize a win."
Trevor Moore had a goal and an assist, Jonathan Quick allowed five goals on 18 shots for the Kings (4-5-0), who have allowed at least four goals in seven of nine games this season (2-5-0).
"We still don't know how we want to play," Los Angeles coach Todd McLellan said. "I would think the experiment of run and gun that we are trying to play, how much more evidence do we need that it doesn't work?"
Jonsson-Fjallby redirected Brenden Dillon's shot from the blue line, which sent the puck to the far post when Quick had already committed at the near post to make it 5-4 at 14:23 of the third.

Blake Wheeler scored into an empty net during a power play at 19:20 for the 6-4 final.
The Jets went in front 1-0 at 5:03 of the first period when Mark Scheifele scored his fifth goal. He stole the puck from Phillip Danault in the defensive zone and beat Quick with a shot into the roof of the net on a breakaway.
But after Winnipeg scored on its first shot of the game, Los Angeles dominated the next stretch of play and scored three straight goals.
Arthur Kaliyev tied it 1-1 on the power play at 9:47 with a shot from the right face-off circle that was helped by a natural screen from Jets defenseman Dylan DeMelo.
Blake Lizotte put the Kings ahead 2-1 at 10:53 when he jammed the puck at the near post after Carl Grundstrom dug it out of the corner.
Gabriel Vilardi extended the lead to 3-1 at 14:33, getting the second tip on a shot by Kevin Fiala from the right circle.
"There's really no other way to go but up after the first 10 minutes of the game," Winnipeg defenseman Nate Schmidt said. "Thank God we have a world-class goaltender, otherwise I think that game is a lot different after the first period. Sometimes it takes your goaltender to make all the saves to wake up the guys and be ready to go."

WPG@LAK: Lowry nets SHG with backhand

Lowry scored on a backhand off a pass from David Gustafsson during a short-handed rush to cut the deficit to 3-2 at 18:08.
"They were putting the boots to us pretty good, and 'Hellie' gave us a chance to find our game," Lowry said. "Sometimes it's easy to fold the tent, you know, you got a back to back. And I think credit to our guys, we score, make it 3-2, and then come out and get a couple big ones in the second period."
Pierre-Luc Dubois scored a power-play goal from the edge of the crease to tie the game 3-3 at 16:04 of the second period.
Schmidt put the Jets back in front 4-3 at 18:55 on a wrist shot from the high slot through traffic.

Moore tied it 4-4 at 4:45 of the third, getting behind two defenders and scoring on a wrist shot in the slot after Danault forced a turnover in the offensive zone.
"Whether we can blame it on the PK, not scoring on the power play, bad changes, turnovers, whatever, the bottom line is we can't give up six and think we have a chance to win," Kings captain Anze Kopitar said.
NOTES: Lowry scored the Jets' first short-handed goal of the season. … Winnipeg was 2-for-5 on the power play; Los Angeles was 1-for-4. … Arniel ran the Jets with coach Rick Bowness still recovering from COVID-19. … Kings forward Quinton Byfield did not play because of an illness.
