Morrissey propels Jets to 5-4 win over Stars

DALLAS -- Josh Morrissey scored 34 seconds into overtime, and the Winnipeg Jets recovered for a 5-4 win against the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center on Friday.

Morrissey won it when he shot five-hole on Jake Oettinger on a breakaway.
"[Adam Lowry] did a great job helping me in the corner there and broke the puck up, and [Morrissey] is an elite skater, so you get him into open space, he's a handful," Jets forward Blake Wheeler said. "He's scored a couple of big goals for us the last few games, and that was a big moment."
Lowry had a goal and two assists, Wheeler and had two assists, and Connor Hellebuyck made 37 saves for the Jets (12-6-1), who were coming off a 6-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday.
"It's pretty clear for us when we watch the video and games we've played really well -- the game we played at home against these guys (5-1 win on Nov. 8), most of the Carolina game (4-3 overtime win on Monday), and a lot of other nights this year -- and when we don't play that way, we go into Minnesota and get smoked," Morrissey said. "If you need any evidence or reassurance that there is a certain way we have to play, that's it right there."

Jason Robertson had two goals and an assist to extend his point streak to 14 games, and Jamie Benn had a goal and an assist for the Stars (12-5-4), who are 4-0-3 in their past seven games. Oettinger made 23 saves.
After Kyle Connor pushed the lead to 4-2 at 11:21 of the third period, Robertson got the Stars back to within one when his shot from the left point beat a screened Hellebuyck at 17:48 with Oettinger pulled for the extra skater.
Robertson then tied it 4-4 with 18.5 seconds remaining, shooting into an open net with Hellebuyck down following a collision. A video review initiated by the Situated Room confirmed the call on the ice after it was determined that the actions of Morrissey caused Benn to collide with Hellebuyck.
Robertson's goal was his NHL-leading 18th of the season. He also has 27 points (16 goals, 11 assists) during his point streak.
"I think our 6-on-5 this year has been a lot more effective," Robertson said. "We're just playing more desperate, getting pucks in front of the net, and really just trying to put everything in front of them. We were able to get a couple."

WPG@DAL: Robertson nets 2nd goal within 2 minutes

Cole Perfetti gave the Jets a 1-0 lead 1:32 into the first period when he faked a slap shot in the left circle and slid a backhand into the open net.
Wyatt Johnston scored 26 seconds later to tie it 1-1.
Jansen Harkins put the Jets back in front 2-1 at 5:46 on a one-timer from the right hash marks. The play was started after Michael Eyssimont kept Stars defenseman Ryan Suter from getting to the loose puck with a back check.
Benn tied it again 2-2 at 8:27 when he put in his own rebound on a power play.
"We don't want to be putting ourselves in situations," Benn said. "I liked the fight, I liked the compete right until the end. Hopefully, that turns out to be a big point."
Lowry restored Winnipeg to a 3-2 lead at 8:04 of the second period, scoring from the slot after Axel Jonsson-Fjallby redirected DeMelo's point shot to him through his legs.
"We'll take the point," Dallas coach Peter DeBoer said. "These games right after Thanksgiving, right after Christmas, are easier to play on the road. You play at home, you have family in town, you have distractions, and we had some self-inflicted stuff tonight that is uncharacteristic of our group. Over an 82-game schedule, it's an important point. That's probably the silver lining."
NOTES: Wheeler played in his 844th game with the Jets, passing Bryan Little for the most in their history. … Stars forward Tyler Seguin and defenseman Miro Heiskanen each had two assists.
